How much is a fair price to have head gaskets on a 1996 XLT polaris replaced?

I a m having a problem with overheating and have replaced the coolant check valve as recommended, I also have tried to get air out of system (In hopes that was the problem)-air lock--other than that i dont really know what else to do and i havent got experience with this type of work but know i could do it-if i have the time. Any suggestions guys? Thanks

That chick thought you were talking about a car!

Most service departments at dealerships are going to charge around 70 dollars per hour. Replacing head gaskets shouldn't be more than one hour labor. When you bled the air out of the cooling system, did you elevate the front of the machine so that the heads are level? If not, you didn't get the air bled out. With the front elevated, let the sled run for 10-15 minutes at idle. Periodically check your temp light to make sure that it isn't overheating. Your heat extrusions should both be warm to hot to the touch. If only one extrusion is hot, then you definitely have air trapped somewhere. In my opinion you are better off taking to a reputable dealer and have them give you an estimate before they start the repairs. You could have Johnny Shadetree do it but is he going to do quality work and stand behind it? If you have a dealer diagnose the problem and call you with an estimate, then you can make up your mind if it is a job that you want to tackle yourself. If you do it yourself then you will just have to pay for the estimate and get the parts you need. If you have the dealer do the repairs and the sled still isn't right, than it's up to tham to make it right. It all depends on which route you want to take. Hope this helps you.

So, you aren't sure of what the problem is? If I were you I'd take it to a small garage someplace and ask what they'd charge to tell me wha tis wrong, better yet go to a larger one and pay to have it put on their analyzer to find the problem. Then take it to a smaller place that is reputable and ask how much, you can call a few places and make sure they give a warranty in writing. That is a pretty involved job and they have to make sure the head isn't cracked. If it is the motor will have to be replaced or get another car. So, you need to be positive of the problem first. Then decide what to do. Good luck. been there, done that.

I used to be simply short of to understand from want2quit, used to be that rate for one or each head gaskets?, and likewise in which you had it performed, I am completely disabled and not able to do my possess maintenance any more, and I additionally want head gaskets changed on my vehicle correct now, I'd undoubtedly respect the knowledge due to the fact that that is a heck of a well rate, Thank You, George
