I think the bent poles are used only for down hill. The purpose of the bends is to get tip behind the skier and, this way, reduce air drag.

The bent poles are usually used in the Giant Slalom races. The reasoning is that it allows the atheletes the ability when they get in the "tuck position" to have their hands close together to break the force of the wind. With straight poles, thee poles would sitck out awkwardly to the sides. With the bent poles they are in a nice streamlined position when tucked in.

the purpose of bent poles is so the poles curve around the skiiers body so they go fast and no wind passes throah the poles to slow the skiier down.
